Program Details and Selection
The next Aurora cohort kicks off in Q4 2025. Applications open in Q1 2025 and close by Q2, with rolling reviews to admit just six UK-based studios. Key criteria include a working game concept and at least 50% of leadership from underrepresented backgrounds. Funded by the BFI and National Lottery, the six-month program ends with a showcase day for investors and publishers.

Possible Hurdles
Despite its promise, Aurora faces a few challenges. With only six slots, competition will be fierce and many quality studios risk missing out. The reliance on public funding might limit future cohorts if BFI or National Lottery priorities shift. And the program’s pace—covering everything from HR recruitment to deal negotiation in six months—could overwhelm teams new to the business side of games.

If Aurora delivers on its bold vision, the UK games scene could see a wave of new voices and fresh AAA-level experiences rooted in diverse perspectives.
